Quality Assurance & Certifications Lead
Transform 800,000 hectares of greenhouses into fully-autonomous food production sites
At eternal.ag, we're building the future of sustainable food production. Our mission is to convert the world's existing greenhouses into fully automated facilities that can produce fresh food year-round - addressing the critical need to double food production by 2050 while facing severe labor shortages, water scarcity, and climate challenges.
About the role
We are hiring a Quality Management & Certifications Lead to own, scale, and maintain our global Quality Management System (QMS), hardware validation, and regulatory compliance roadmap. In this role, you will define the quality standard for our autonomous greenhouse robotics, map the certification and regulatory landscape for our products, lead international machinery safety, and ensure every hardware and software system we bring to market is correctly classified, validated, and compliant for its intended use.
Sitting at the intersection of mechatronics engineering, software reliability, supply chain, and global regulatory bodies, you will serve as the central hub connecting design engineering to real-world field performance and compliance.
What you'll do
- Build and scale the QMS: Establish ISO 9001-aligned quality management systems across product engineering, contract manufacturing partners, and field deployment teams.
- Lead global product certifications: Drive end-to-end certification pathways for autonomous bots - including CE Marking, UL/CSA listing, ISO 3691-4 (driverless industrial trucks), ISO 13849 (Functional Safety), and FCC/RED (EMC/wireless).
- Manage supplier & CM quality: Conduct contract manufacturer (CM) and vendor audits. Define Incoming Quality Control (IQC), In-Process Quality Control (IPQC), and End-of-Line (EOL) testing protocols for hardware, electronics, and sub-assemblies.
- Drive closed-loop failure analysis: Own root-cause problem solving (FMEA, 8D, CAPA) by analysing RMA data, warranty claims, and field failure logs in coordination with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and Deployment Productivity teams.
- Component & materials compliance: Maintain compliance tracking for electronic components and mechanical hardware, ensuring adherence to RoHS, REACH, and international supply chain standards.
Who you are
Core requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in hardware quality engineering, mechatronics quality management, product compliance, or regulatory certification for robotics, industrial automation, autonomous systems, or complex hardware.
- Proven track record of mapping certification and regulatory requirements for new products, including correctly classifying products and determining the standards, directives, and testing requirements applicable to their hardware and software components.
- Experience leading machinery safety, AMR/AGV, autonomous system, or industrial equipment certifications (e.g., ISO 12100, ISO 13849, ISO 3691-4, CE, UL/CSA, OSHA) through external testing and certification bodies such as TÜV, UL, Intertek, or SGS.
- Strong practical knowledge of QMS frameworks (ISO 9001), structured root-cause analysis (8D, 5-Why, FMEA), risk management, and managing technical construction files (TCF).
- Experience auditing contract manufacturers (CMs) and evaluating vendor component data, including datasheets, BOM accuracy, and component compliance such as RoHS/REACH.
- Experience developing certification and compliance strategies that balance mandatory requirements with speed-to-market, cost, and product differentiation.
- Strong ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, product, manufacturing, supply chain, and field teams to embed quality and compliance early in the product development lifecycle.
Bonus points if you have
- Experience with agricultural technology, or greenhouse environments.
- Exposure to functional safety for software and AI-driven hardware/navigation systems.
- Experience collaborating with multi-region engineering teams across Europe and Asia.
What we offer
- Real ownership: You will establish and lead our global quality and compliance framework, directly impacting how fast our fleet scales across global markets.
- Build from scratch: Establish foundational quality processes, factory testing protocols, and certification pipelines from the ground up.
- Cross-disciplinary exposure: Work directly with teams across Product Design, System Administration, Fleet Management, and Manufacturing.
- Global team: Collaborate closely across our Cologne HQ and Bengaluru R&D centre with high autonomy and rapid execution loops.
- Mission at scale: Help build resilient, autonomous food production infrastructure to make global agriculture more sustainable.
