Thousands of Virtual Harvests Before the First Real Cut. Simulation-first Development Explained.

Every robot eternal.ag deploys has already worked, virtually, several times before it ever touches a real plant. That is the basis of simulation-first development: train, test, and fail inside a virtual greenhouse before it touches a real plant.

Why Greenhouses’ Labor Shortages are Structural, not Seasonal

Greenhouse labor availability in Europe has fallen by roughly 30% since 2010. That’s not a bad season. That is fifteen years of steady decline, and every forecast says it continues from here. Across the EU, 61% of farm managers are 55 or older, and only 10.7% are under 40. They are a demographic trend with no reversal in sight, and the data backs that up directly.

Developments in autonomous robots are coming

In some ways it can be argued that the use of robotics in protected horticulture can be divided into three types. The first is the use of robotic systems for transporting and packing product, including monorail systems, crate fillers, etc. These use mature technology which has been widely installed and proven and the only barriers to adoption are economic: does the scale of the business justify the investment, and what is the return on investment. This category also includes specialist equipment such as automatic transplanters.

About eternal.ag

eternal.ag is a German agtech startup building fully autonomous robots for greenhouses. It eliminates the single biggest risk in greenhouse operations: labor uncertainty.

Its robots handle the repetitive, physically demanding crop work, enabling growers to run predictable operations and deliver uniform harvest quality at scale.

Founded in 2025 by Renji John and Sherry Kunjachan, the team has grown to 30+ people with headquarters in Cologne and an office in Bengaluru. The company is backed by Simon Capital, Oyster Bay Venture Capital, Equity Pitcher and Backbone Ventures.
